The tour will be conducted by the CHS Archivist, Samuel Howes

This tour is free of charge.

The tour is outside on uneven ground, please plan accordingly.

Parking available within the cemetery grounds or roadside. Please use discretion.

Our Annual Harvest Basket Raffle features nearly all of the food items you need for a fabulous Thanksgiving meal including a Gift Certificate to Hannaford for those perishable items you may need as well.

And BONUS!!! There is a 2nd place basket as well. It usually has a winter theme to help folks get ready for the chilly weather ahead.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the CHS store starting in October.

The drawing for both baskets will occur on Saturday, November 9th.

TAG DAY at OTIS FCU combines the ease of banking and supporting CHS at the same time. We will be in the lobby of OTIS FCU at 170 Main Street in Jay selling the raffle tickets. Stop by and say hello.

invites you to our double header
event Known as history
Hour and Spaghetti dinner.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Learn about the history of Lake Anasagunticook and then enjoy a spaghetti dinner.

Spend the afternoon with members and friends of the Canton Historical Society and the Lake Anasagunticook Association who will share historical information about the lake.

The program starts at 3:00 p.m. and admission is FREE.

The spaghetti dinner is from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with suggested donation of $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per child (under 12).

The Country Store will be open for business.

All are welcome to join us for this event.
The building is handicap accessible.


Admission for the Story Hour is free and all are welcome.


Immediately following the presentations at 4:oo p.m. will be the Spaghetti Dinner! Enjoy spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, dessert, and a beverage.

Donations of $5.00 per person are requested for the spaghetti dinner. Children under 12 is $3.00.

If you have a cemetery project you wish to share with others, please bring a display board, photos, or other related materials. Tables will be available to set up displays.

10:30 - 11:15 “The Cemetery Ladies” and their work in Canton’s Cemeteries!

The Cemetery Ladies are a group of volunteers who have been working for more than five years to preserve the cemeteries in Canton. The Ladies will discuss how they became interested in this work, how they found support to do it, and the work they have done.

11:15 – 12:00 Canton’s Cemeteries: Researching the Burials

This presentation is a follow-up to the preservation work done at Canton cemeteries. Volunteers and members of the historical society researched the people buried in the cemeteries to document and learn more about their lives.

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch

Lunch by the Canton Historical Society will be served in the presentation hall. Finger rolls, potato salad, garden salad, chips and a variety of desserts will be served. We will take a few minutes to put up tables & chairs after the final presentation.

Meet us for a tour of the Pine Grove Cemetery where we will discuss the cemetery history, notable burials, and the work to preserve it. 179 Pleasant Street (Route 108), parking is available at the front of the cemetery or in the cemetery rows.

Indoor Option (we encourage you to take time to do the cemetery tour and indoor option.): A visit to the Canton Historical Society building, displays and memorabilia.

Parking is limited and we ask that spots directly in front of the building be reserved for those with mobility issues. Parking along the street is allowed. Additional parking is available behind the Big Apple Convenience Store at the Anasagunticook Dam Park & Boat Launch. From Turner street turn onto Staples Hill Road and then your next Right onto Old Railroad Grde. The Park is immediately on your Right.

The Historical Society is bringing back our famous Chili Chowder Cook-off!

Local chefs compete with their very best chili and or chowder vying for the public's vote to become the winner of the contest.

Admission is $5.00 / $3.00 for children under 12 YO

Admission includes all the sample of chili and chowder you can eat, bread, beverage and dessert.
